The Layman's AI: The only AI updates your business actually needs.

Written by Kris, for small business owners who'd rather run their business than keep up with every AI launch.

    Issue #42  ·  Oct 27, 2026

Claude Duet is an AI that checks your inbox and calendar while you work. Here is what it does and what to watch for.

Claude Duet vs ChatGPT Dots vs Meta Muse: which always-on assistant actually fits a small business?

    Section 1

    Tool of the Week

Claude Duet is an assistant that runs alongside you while you work. It keeps an eye on your inbox and your calendar, and brings things to you instead of waiting to be asked.

That is the big shift. Most AI tools sit there until you type something. Duet is "always on", which is useful when you're on a job and can't check email, and worth thinking about before you switch it on.

    Section 2

    Real Business Example

This is where each issue shows one business using the tool: what they set up, what changed, and what they'd do differently. A short, specific story beats a feature list.

Template noteReal examples only. This slot stays empty in the draft rather than inventing a business.
    Section 3

    Step-by-Step

    1. Decide which inbox and which calendar Duet can see. Start with one of each.
    2. Turn it on for a week and keep a note of what it flags.
    3. Check what it suggests before you act on anything it drafts.
    4. At the end of the week, keep it, narrow it, or switch it off.
    Section 4

    The Dumb Question

"Does always-on mean it reads everything?"

It means it watches the accounts you connect while you work. That's the whole point, and it's also the thing to watch for. Connect only what you're comfortable with an assistant seeing.

    What It'll Cost You

    The Practical Play

Do thisIf you already pay for Claude Pro, Duet costs you nothing extra. Try it for a week on one inbox before you pay for anything else.
